Good dental hygiene is important for children of all ages. It will set them up to have healthy teeth and gums for the rest of their life. Fortunately, there are some things that parents can do to make dental hygiene fun for children.
Set A Timer
Your kids dentist may recommend that you set a timer for two minutes every time your child brushes their teeth. This timer will be helpful as it will increase the likelihood of your child brushing their teeth for an adequate amount of time. It will also be fun for your child to watch the timer count all the way down to zero.
Give Them An Incentive
A lot of children need an incentive to brush and floss their teeth each day. Fortunately, you can do this in a variety of different ways. You can make a sticker chart, and you can give them a sticker to add to it each time they have practiced good oral hygiene. When they fill up the chart, you can give them some sort of reward like a new toy or an evening out with you doing something fun. You can also give them a prize every time they visit their childrens dentistry practice and have no cavities. You may find that you can easily get your children to remember to take care of their gums and teeth if they know that there’s some sort of incentive for doing so.
Get Them A Fun Toothbrush
Children are more likely to want to brush their teeth if they have a fun toothbrush. Try to find one that has a theme that they will like. It’s also a good idea to have them pick out their own toothbrush in order to ensure that it’s one that they will actually want to use.
Brush And Floss Your Teeth With Them
One of the easiest ways that you can get your children to practice good oral hygiene is to do it with them. Children often look up to their parents, and they want to do everything that they are doing. If they see that you brushing and flossing your teeth, they will probably want to do it as well.
Let Them Practice
Your children may not be practicing good oral hygiene because they aren’t completely comfortable using floss or a toothbrush. You can help them develop good habits by letting them practice. Draw teeth on an inflated balloon, and show them how to gently use a toothbrush on it. Use a cob of raw corn to let your child practice flossing in between the kernels. By doing all of these things, your children can learn about proper oral hygiene techniques while having fun all at the same time.
